From 5 June to 10 October 2021, my works were shown at NordArt — one of the largest international exhibitions of contemporary art in Europe, held every year at Kunstwerk Carlshütte in Büdelsdorf, Germany. In 2021, Ukraine was the focus country of NordArt, and I was one of 22 Ukrainian artists selected by the jury for the Ukrainian Pavilion “Borders of Reality”, curated by Yevhen Karas and Daryna Momot.
About the Ukrainian Pavilion
Ukraine had been announced as the central country of NordArt 2020, but the exhibition was cancelled because of the pandemic and postponed by exactly one year. The Ukrainian exhibition occupied more than 2,000 m² in the former Carlshütte foundry — an industrial monument — and part of the historic sculpture park.
The title “Borders of Reality” was first meant to describe the present of Europe’s largest country in the language of art. After the pandemic left the world in deep uncertainty, it took on a global meaning. Photography, sculpture, painting, graphics, three-dimensional compositions, textile collages and installations were created by artists living inside the social processes of a country that, historically and geographically, lies on the line between European freedoms and authoritarian systems.
Around 100,000 visitors come to NordArt every year.
My works at NordArt
The key direction of my work is Op Art. In my three-dimensional compositions, I combine the minimalism of simple geometric shapes with colour contrast to heighten the viewer’s emotional perception. Working with abstract wooden sculpture, I look for new visual possibilities of a traditional material, bringing together my fascination with Impressionism, Pointillism and optical art.
